A cafeteria is a place to gather. It's a place to eat healthy meals, sit alongside friends, and spend rainy days at indoor play.
Right now, an extra classroom at Shade School serves as a cafeteria. Students sit on mats to eat their breakfast and lunch. Shade’s cooks prepare meals in a small kitchen and outside over a wood fire. This is just a temporary solution for our growing student body.
With plans to welcome over 100 students in January of 2023, it's time for a cafeteria!
Sun-sensitive children with albinism will have a shaded place to eat and play.
Nutritious breakfast and lunch will be served to every student.
A gathering place will offer space for seminars, trainings, and empowerment.
Community members and the Shade team can come together to create change.
The cafeteria will be built from traditional building materials, including concrete blocks and corrugated metal roofing. Water tanks connected to our solar-powered well will provide water and septic systems will be installed.
Included: Dining hall with 400+ capacity and stage, kitchen with food preparation and serving areas, and a food storage room
Expected to Break Ground: January 2023
Budget: $152,900
You can help vulnerable children have healthy bodies so that they are ready to learn.
